's recent work [link] and perhaps, by a Chinese fiction concerning the adventures of martial artists set in ancient China that I've finished watching lately - "The Return of the Condor Heroes", the second novel of the Condor Trilogy by the famous chinese novelist Louis Cha.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who love Chinese dramas. I strongly recommend "the Condor Heroes" part 2, but if you like it, you can start watching from the 1st part to understand to whole story.
Keep in mind that in part 2, the young and teen Yang Guo is quite like Thomas with his cocky and daring personality, while his future self looks like Sesu with more calm and imposing appearance. Xiao Long Nu is more similar to Helga than Tina because of her quiet self. Despite how supercilious Yang Guo toward his opponents, he could be quite gentle and overprotective toward his Xiao Long Nu, and a little corny too. ^^" They got separate by unknown reason and then Yang Guo also lost one of his arm. They were reunited with each other after 16 years of waiting and longing, exactly the amount of time it took for Sesu/Thomas and Tina/Helga to meet each other on Earth if you calculate their age according to Greecia time. What do I mean by that? Not long after the tragedy, the scientists and Dumas' father seek to retrieve Tina' soul on earth when Dumas was just born right? And at the time he found his beloved sister with Thomas, Dumas has turned 17.
I have a thing for asian dramas, so I heard about "The Condor hearoes" before, even if I haven't still watched it (too many titles on my watching list

You're right, it has a strong similarity with FC when you look at the character's personality *giggles*
Thoma looks so serious/determined here,a true hero nonetheless, and Helga couldn't look prettier.

If you have already watched it, I no longer have to waste too much time to tell you how similar the two main characters to our Thomas and Helga ne. The young and teen Yang Guo is just like Thomas with that trademark cocky feature while his future self is like Sesu with more calm and imposing personality. Xiao Long Nu is similar to Helga than Tina though, if you see that quiet self of hers. All in all, it's cute to see despite how arrogant Yang Guo to his opponents, he still treat his Xiao Long Nu with great gentleness and overprotectiveness.
I don't know if you still remember that Yang Guo also lost one of his arms during the time he got separated from Xiao Long Nu by unknown reason (according to his knowledge), I was greatly touched by the part that he always stood on the mountain top looking over the sea with that distant look of his, waiting for her. Now that i mention it i sorta like that kind of romance stories: like combining adventure and action and a little bit tragedy! LOVE IT!

You bet! Like "The return of the Condor Heroes", FC is a combination of romance, action/adventure and angst too. What different between them is that Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu manage to be with each other forever while Thomas and Helga's fate is still rather ambiguous. Helga acts exactly like Xiao Long Nu at the beginning of epi24 when she saw Thomas, what would happen if Dumas couldn't jerk her back to him? She probably ran into Thomas' arms for sure. And that Xiao Long Nu's attitudes happenning in epi26 was even more frustrating, she almost made me believe that they were finally a couple!! And when they're still NOT....ARGHHHH!
Not a happy and satisfied ending for me..........
